28.05.2019Seattle The final dramatic saga of Seattle’s iconic Alaskan Way Viaduct is coming to an end
Remember, SIXENSE (at the time called SOLDATA) was in charge of the monitoring project to build the replacement tunnel, the largest ever built with its 18 m diameters. We measured 4,000 monitoring points throughout downtown during 4 years.
We are now monitoring the final chapter for the Viaduct, its demolition.
Our current task is to monitor city utilities and structures in the vicinity of the teardown of the 2.2 mile (3.5 km) long double decker highway which has dominated the Seattle waterfront for 65 years. Seventeen vibration monitors are monitoring the demolition and subsequent filling of the Battery Street Tunnel with demolition debris. Working with KIEWIT, we are proud to be a part of this landmark project.
